AOL Users - changes to AOL mean that this option is no longer available.
AOL Users click here
Particular care should be taken by users following these instructions to
ensure they do not replace any existing email account information.
Outlook/Outlook Express
Users can add a new account to their Outlook Express program to allow
business email to be originated without the use of any other software (via your
existing ISP account - Internet Service Provider e.g. Wanadoo, BT, Tiscali etc -
not AOL).
You may need to obtain settings from your ISP in order to follow these
instructions;
1. Open Outlook Express - you will see a screen similar to that shown below
Note - there may be existing folders already established as part of your ISP
setup

2. Click on Tools and then select Accounts

3. Select Mail

4. Add a new Mail account

5. Type the name of the new user - it is simpler to use the style
username@your-business.co.uk

6. Complete the email address used for your business account e.g.
username@your-business.co.uk

7. Server names, incoming mail and outgoing mail names will be provided by
your ISP. If you already use Outlook Express, you can obtain these by reviewing
your existing accounts.
e.g. for Wanadoo/Freeserve, these will be POP3, pop3.freeserve.com and
smtp.freeserve.com

8. Account name and password will be those provided by ISP

9. Do not change any existing settings here if you already use Outlook. If
you do not already use Outlook, select manual selection to ensure Outlook does
not try to redial.

10. You can now finish using wizard to set up the account.

11. To ensure that all settings have been provided by the setup wizard, you
will need to review them.
Click on Tools, Accounts and select the newly created account (last one if
there is a list), and choose properties

12. The properties for each ISP will be different, so these instructions can
only highlight the main things to check.
The mail account name can be changed to something more descriptive e.g.
your-business.co.uk

13. Your ISP may require authentication before allowing access to your mail -
if required, tick the authentication box

14. Connection Type - shown for completeness but you should not need to
change anything

15. Advanced - shown for completeness but you should not need to change
anything

16. IMAP - your ISP probably requires the 'check all folders' option to be
ticked

Testing
To ensure that you have established an account correctly;
Logon to your normal personal email.
Send an email to username@your-business.co.uk
- with a title of 'test' and a message body of 'test' (some email programs will
reject messages sent with no title/body). Ensure that your message has been sent
before moving on (i.e. ensure it is not still sitting in your outbox).
Launch Outlook Express (if not already open).
Click on send/receive 'new messages'.
You should now see a new message sent to
username@your-business.co.uk
Reply to the message and send. Ensure that your message has been sent before
moving on (i.e. ensure it is not still sitting in your outbox). If necessary,
click on 'send/receive' new messages.
Logon to your usual personal email.
You should have received an email from
username@your-business.co.uk.
That completes the email setup exercise.
You will need to let us know the new username at
your ISP so that we can redirect all relevant emails to that address.
